Outdoorschool opening 12.06.20

What a weekend! On Friday afternoon we had the opening day for Outdoorschule Tegernsee at Hirschberg. For me this was something very special since this is the place aka the mountain where I learned skiing, am skiing instructing every winter and in summer go on bike trails and hiking. Like that I feel very connected to the community here, since former teachers and mentors have become best friends, colleagues and partners. Tegernsee is the place where I grew up, where I have the oldest friendships and strongest connections to. I feel deeply rooted with this place, with these people and especially with nature here. The mountains and the lake are always calling me and never cease to amaze with the spots I regularly visit and new perks I discover with every time I come back!
So on Friday I gave a little HIIT session to introduce my program to the community. It was hot in the setting afternoon sun, it was steamy in the freshly cut field of the skiing hill while Caro and me where pushing hard! It was a great session and a perfect way to introduce my approach to friends and colleagues who were watching with great interest and amusement, taking pictures and enjoying the beats out of my speaker:)
Afterwards we sat together with a refreshing beer while Albert, one of the initiators of the Outdoorschule and head of the skiing school was barbecuing with a lot of passion! The kitchen of the newly opened restaurant, which is based right at the base of the skiing hill, accompanied sausages and steaks with amazing salads and a great variety of cakes. So our stomachs got filled with great food and vibes with the people couldn’t have been better for that special occasion:) Looking forward to more fun, workouts, chill times and good vibes at Hirschberg with my colleagues and clients in summer with our newly opened Outdoorschule Tegernsee!

Afterwards I met with my best friend from school and we sat down together on a bench at the lake. The sun was long gone, but the colors of the sky were unbelievably vibrant until close to midnight! Approaching midnight these colors were slowly fading and giving way to a sky with stars you will never be able to see from big cities…We caught up with stories from our life, laughed, gazed silently into the sky and just enjoyed being out there in the most amazing nature…what a start into the weekend!

The next morning I was up early, as the skies were bright blue and promised a nice summer day when I glanced out of the window. I went for a nice round with the Stand-up paddle board on the lake and had breakfast with my grandmother afterwards. She’s a star and I have always interesting and thought provoking chats with her. We talked about the books we are currently reading, about society and how it has changed during the pandemic and also generally from the times when she was young to now. When I left she gave me one of her books to try: „A short history of humankind“ by Yuval Noah Harari.

At noon I met up again with my best friend to go slack-lining at the lake. Wind was strong and I had to give my best to stay on the line. My friend is a very experienced slack-liner and was giving helpful advice on how to cross the complete 15m line. In the end I succeeded for once! YAYY:) Also we were just standing right at the shore watching the sailors and especially a very talented Kite-surfer! The wind was blowing strongly but very steadily that day, which is not very common at Tegernsee. Mellow wind with occasional strong gusts makes kite-surfing here usually quite impossible. This surfer though made use of the perfect conditions and blazed like a lighting strike on top of the lake, jumped several meters high at a turn, only to blaze back with the same neck-breaking speed to where he or she came from! Amazing to watch! For a normal sailing boat, it usually takes about ten to fifteen minutes to cross the lake from west to east. The kite-surfer made it in less than two!

After pasta, pesto and fish on the terrace at home for lunch with my mom and my friend I took an easy afternoon with recharging on the couch, eating more pasta and doing Yoga:) At night, guess what, I met again with my best friend for some beers at a local pub, called Macks’l, which is run by a girl I went to school with. More chatting, catching up und socializing for the first time in months at a pub! It felt great to be able to do that again, though only until 10:) Next week, she said, she might be able to open until eleven. Well thats nice to hear, bring it on! :)
When I came home, the nearing summer thunder storm was about to unleash its power. These storms are usually pretty powerful and quite common at the alps, but this one was out of the ordinary. Already an hour before it started raining and before you could hear any thunders cracking, it must have been around eleven, the sky was flashing brightly in short intervals of only a few seconds and illuminating the whole valley! My mom and me were standing on the balcony and watching the spectacle in pure astonishment. When I had finally gone to bed at midnight, the real thing started. Rain was pouring down and drumming loudly on my roof window, while lighting strikes illuminated my room through the curtains! The rumbles in the valley of Tegernsee were bouncing back and forth from one mountain side to the other and shaking the house so hard, that I could feel it in my bed. Luckily I fell asleep within seconds. Good day, good people, good vibes and in my little cave-bed at home right under the roof. All I need for a good night of sleep:)
Sunday morning I drove back to Munich, goodbye wasn’t hard as it was still raining! What a weekend, so happy to be alive! Hope you had an amazing weekend, too, with good company, great activities, food and all the stuff that makes you happy. See ya soon fighters!
